maxwellOriginal Maxwell Mays Print “The Newport Music Festival, July 2001” – Born in Rhode Island and a product of the Rhode Island School of Design, Maxwell Mays (1918-2009) told stories in each one of his paintings. His association with the New England Magazine YANKEE, brought to the public a series of cover pictures, which added greatly to his popularity as Rhode Island’s best known “collectable artist'. Generously donated by a life-long friend of the artist, this poster is framed with museum quality, UV protection glass.

Marjorie Vogel (1930-2007) became the most prolific artist ever of Rhode Island-themed illustration produced by a single hand. The precision and detail of her work is stunning to the eye. During her long career, she created precise and accurate scenes for prints, site and town maps, posters, note cards, and ornaments, as well as architectural renderings from blueprints. Her work is displayed in four presidential libraries, the Vatican, the Smithsonian Institution, the U.S. Capitol, Winterthur Museum, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and Liberty State Park among the more notable repositories. Generously donated by a long-time friend of the artist, this print with original signature; is framed with museum quality, UV protection glass.

The Academy describes the Governors Ball gift as follows: "A gold canister shaped like a film can – inside are cards, each one representing one of the nominated shorts and features from the 83rd Awards. Unlike the posters, these are only given out to the attendees at the Governors Ball, and are otherwise never made available."

84th Academy Awards Producers


Brian Grazer and Don Mischer will produce the 84th Academy Awards telecast. Mischer will for the second year in a row serve as a producer and as the telecast director.


Brian Grazer

Grazer has earned four Academy Award nominations. He won a Best Picture Oscar in 2001 for "A Beautiful Mind." In 1984, Grazer was nominated in the writing category for "Splash," and he received Best Picture nominations in 1995 and 2008 for "Apollo 13" and "Frost/Nixon," respectively. His other film credits include "Spies Like Us," "Kindergarten Cop," "The Nutty Professor," "Liar Liar," "8 Mile" and "Cinderella Man." His current projects include the about to be released "J. Edgar" and the just released "Tower Heist."


"It's very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career," said Grazer. "Don is a legend, and I am excited to work with him."


Don Mischer

In addition to the 83rd Academy Awards, Mischer's producer/director credits include "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial," "The Kennedy Center Honors," several Super Bowl half-time shows and the opening ceremonies of both Winter and Summer Olympic Games. He has also produced specials with a wide range of musical performers, including Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, Bono, Barbra Streisand, Justin Timberlake and Yo Yo Ma. Among the many honors he has earned are 15 Emmy Awards, 10 Directors Guild of America Awards, two NAACP Image Awards and a Peabody Award.


"The Academy Awards are in a class by themselves, and I'm elated that the Academy has asked me to return," said Mischer.
