FETE DU CINEMA
FLICKERS ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY
Celebrate the Holiday Season with Flickers and the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
Join us as we ring in the holidays in style at the charming Museum of Work and Culture in Woonsocket, RI. It's a trip back home for us to the roots of the Festival which evolved from the memorable cultural event Flickers created in 1995: the Jubilé Franco Américain.
Raise a toast. Sample exquisite gourmet desserts (courtesy of Russell Morin Fine Catering). Listen to the music of season my harpist, Shelley Otis. Mingle with friends. Share memories of the Festival. Discover some of the amazing new films that we'll be screening in 2014 and learn which of our films are on the Academy Shortlist.
And discover some of the latest films that have been submitted to the Festival with a preview screening...
The Festival has become a magnet for those who have make short films reflecting RIIFF’s unique status as the lone film festival in New England that is a qualifying event for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “Oscar®”. There are more than 7,000 total film festivals worldwide; only 75 have been granted this prestigious distinction.
In 2012, three films that premiered at RIIFF’s Opening went on to receive Academy Award nominations: “ASAD,” directed by Bryan Buckley, and produced by Mino Jarjoura (Hungry Man); “BUZKASHI BOYS,” directed by Sam French, and produced by Ariel Nasr (Afghan Film Project); “HENRY,” directed by Yan England, (Yan England).
Out of the over 200 films screened in 2013 (with 54 being World/North American Premieres) which one(s) will receive the Oscar® nod?
