"After two years of hybrid screenings, we were able to host our first fully in-person edition of Vortex since the start of the pandemic. The energy and enthusiasm was palpable with our attending filmmakers, and it was simply a joy to be able to share their work in person with our impassioned audience. ” said Shawn Drywa, Vortex Program Director.

“Vortex has always prided itself on showcasing the best genre films from the independent film community and this year was no exception. From Australia to Italy, France, and Lebenon these films represent the vanguard of genre filmmaking from across the globe, and showcase a rising generation of filmmakers, who are redefining genre films for the next generation of cinephiles."

“We are proud to see that this sidebar to RIIFF has become an important cultural event for the State and an international draw for filmmakers and audiences. This year saw an exceptional number of filmmakers, cast and crew coming from Australia, Italy and throughout the United States,” he added.
