This e-mail was received from a writer who won a First Prize Award with RIIFF:

"Speaking of great meetings--I met with Renegade Effects Studio
in North Hollywood last week and sold them "Princess & the Pirate"
with a financial contigency of thirty days. They were taking the
project to their financial backers this past weekend and will have
an answer to me in two weeks.Fingers crossed! Anyway, it was nice
to hear the sounds of gushing over my writing...even if there are a
few minor edits to be taken care of should the money men come
through for us. If the money comes through (they're anticpating
about a $43 million production budget) the project will be greenlit
immediately. I'll let you know when I get the final word.I can't thank you
and the festival enough for the help in getting my
script the exposure it so needed.Chat soon, Dana"

No, we don’t want to see your Homer Simpson boxers. What we do want is your wittiest or most thoughtful mini-masterpiece, postmarked by June 30th 2009!

For the sixth year in a row, ScriptBiz—the screenwriting seminar of the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF), August 4-9, 2009—will feature a Staged Reading of three Short Scripts of fifteen pages or fewer. The reading compliments the daylong screenwriting workshops, which take place August 3rd. Judges will select up to seven Finalists who will be listed on the website. Final Round Judges, including a NYC agent and two filmmakers, will select the Top Trio of Scripts from among the Finalists to be read by actors on Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Historic Columbus Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island.

Three winners will be announced by email, on the website and in press releases by mid-July, and they will be listed in the festival’s magazine-style brochure. Plus, the trio of winners will each receive two passes to attend the entire ScriptBiz event as our guests. All for only a $25 entry fee!

But wait—there’s more: three winning authors will also receive two All Access Festival Red Carpet Passes to attend the Rhode Island International Film Festival events and screenings (a $900 value!). In addition, winners will be honored guests at a Meet-N-Greet of the authors and the actors following the Staged Reading.

Screenplays will be judged on creativity, innovation, vision, originality and the use of language. The key element is that of communication and how it complements and is transformed by the language of film.

So dust off your future academy winning short script and send it to us today. C’mon, don’t be shy—show us your shorts!
