A Word on the Horror Market

Why Support the
RI International Horror Film Festival?

Main Dates: October 5-8, 2006

The Horror Market Segment: Statistics
For the past six years, Flickers through the Rhode Island International Film Festival has been presenting its annual RI Horror Film Festival. With roots firmly planted in the community, the Festival has become the largest Horror film festival in New England.

• Attendance at the Festival has increased 85% since 1999
• Entries have increased by 75% over 2003
• Filmmaker attendance has increased by 65% over 2003

The Festival is earning an international reputation for the quality and diversity of its programming. The Festival’s excellence opens doors here in the United States and around the world. In 2004, the Festival screened four World Premieres, six United States Premieres.

Each year the Festival attracts a vibrant and influential audience including:

• college students and members of the regional arts community
• Alternative film-lovers from the larger community
• Local and international filmmakers, and programmers
• Media artists and other cultural trendsetters

As the Festival grows, it attracts more support from the corporate sector while maintaining the quality of the relationships it has always had in the arts communities. The City of Providence, Clear Channel Communications, Rule Broadcasting Systems, the Goethe Institut-Boston, the Phoenix Communications Group, Delta Airlines and Amtrak were all sponsors for the Festival in 2004. This year, we welcome UPN 28 as our Media Sponsor.

The importance of the arts and alternative film market and the interest of a wider audience also makes the Festival an appealing story to both the mainstream and alternative media. These are a few of the media outlets that covered and supported the Festival in 2004: The Providence Journal, The Boston Globe, Motif Magazine, The Federal Hill Gazette, Clear Channel Communications, Yankee Magazine, NewEnglandFilm.com, NBC TV 10, The Providence Phoenix.

The steady growth of the Horror Festival has allowed the development of programs like the annual Costume Contest, the Exotic Fashion Show, haunted house tours, Silent Film Series, programming geared for the region’s college student base and visiting filmmaker seminars. It also permits an increase in the number of promotional events and screenings that are put on throughout the Festival.
